There Are A Few Ways To Obtain Relief From Arthritis Pain For A While

With the aging population today the increase in arthritis in people over the age of 55 is growing. Arthritis pain is a very disabling condition that affects the joints throughout the human body. This condition is mainly found in senior people but not always Sometime the younger individuals can get one or the other variety as well. The disease occurs mainly in the industrialized nations

The most common types of this disease are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid, septic, gout and pseudo arthritis, but there are over 100 different types. All cause various levels of pain to the patient. Redness and swelling of the joints accompanies this pain. Doctors usually work on reducing the swelling and inflammation of the joint to reduce the soreness.

Each particular form of the disease may be caused by different problems. Gout which is a build up of uric acid in the joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is caused by an over active immune system that produces antibodies that work against the joint itself. In some cases infections that has occurred elsewhere in the body may travel to the joints and this can cause septic arthritis.

Day to day wear and tear of any particular joint over years can cause the joints to change creating the source of osteoarthritis. This is a degenerative joint disease that breaks down the cartilage within the joint until the bones start rubbing together. If this breakdown occurs, there is a loss of movement, Joints start to become stiff and bones rub together, resulting in pain within the joint area.

The only way not to let this disease get the better of you, is to try and keep a positive mindset. Keep as active as possible and refuse to become inactive even when it hurts badly. A cure of this condition still has to be found, but there are some treatments that can bring temporary relief. Psychical therapy does help. An exercise program designed to work on the affected areas can go a long way in preventing further damage. It is best to follow such a routine under the supervision of a therapist.

Your weight can also affect the various joints. Maintaining a healthy weight will give you relief reducing pressure on joints. Avoiding repetitive activities which continually put pressure on any one joint will help. Try to keep your exercise varied and non repetitive whilst still enjoying it and this will help you to alleviate the hurt.

Relief can be achieved using some methods. Heat therapy such as a warm shower, swimming in warm water or applying a hot pad or hot water bottle on the affected joint, is found to be temporarily helpful. So is sitting in a hot water tub. In the same way cold therapy also helps for a while by numbing the area. Ice cubes or ice packs can be tied around the joint. Relief brought about by any of the above methods will be short lived. Yoga, acupuncture treatment, massaging or eliminating certain food from the diet are also beneficial in some cases.

Several creams and ointments are available on pharmacy shelves that may be tried. The can help take the edge of the arthritis pain when rubbed on the painful areas. Even painkillers can be used from time to time. Keeping contact with you doctor is a good idea lot as well. Some prescription medicines may sometimes be required.
